HCSNet Workshop | 1st September 2009

The HCSNet Workshop on Movement and Motion Capture, Macquarie University, Australia was co-hosted by the Music, Sound and Performance Lab (Psychology Department) and the Macquarie Centre for Cognitive Science. The co-organizers were Bill Thompson (MSP Lab) and Matthew Finkbeiner (MACCS). Keynote speakers included Petri Toiviainen, University of Jyväskylä, Finland, and Michael Spivey, University of California, Merced.

ARC Grant | 2nd January 2009

The Australian Research Council awarded $295,000 to Professor Bill Thompson (Chief Investigator and Director of the Music, Sound and Performance Lab, Macquarie University) and Professor Caroline Palmer (Partner Investigator and Canada Research Chair, McGill University) for a three-year research project to be conducted in the Music, Sound, and Performance Lab (ARC DP0987182). The title of the funded research project is "Vocal Emotional Communication" and the amounts awarded are: 2009 : $92,000; 2010 : $98,000; 2011 : $105,000.

New cameras | 2nd September 2008

The lab was successfully awarded $89,000 from the MQSIS grant to extend our motion capture lab to an 8-camera system. Our existing 4-camera system has already been used successfully to examine facial expression in emotional song. The new system will be able to track far more complex types of movements.
