Centre for Cognition and its Disorders: Cross Program Support Scheme | 11th January 2012
On December 20th, 2011, Bill Thompson, Paul Sowman, Greg Savage, Lyndsey Nickels, and John Hodges were awarded $14,000 for their project Powering up the right hemisphere when words fail: Augmenting melodic intonation therapy (MIT) with non-invasive brain stimulation to treat impaired left-hemisphere function.
This project will bring together investigators from four programs to investigate whether melodic intonation therapy (MIT) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) can jointly recruit the right hemisphere (RH) to assist with impaired left hemisphere functions.
Macquarie University Safety Net Grant | 4th January 2012
On December 15, 2011, Bill Thompson and Glenn Schellenberg were awarded $25,000 for their project Thought set to music: Effects of background music on cognition.
This grant was awarded for 2012 under the Macquarie University Safety Net scheme.
Visiting Researcher: Jonna Vuoskoski | 1st April 2010
Jonna Vuoskoski, University of Jyväskylä, Finland, was a visiting researcher to the Music, Sound & Performance Lab, where she conducted research on music and personality (Jan 20th - April 1st, 2010).
During her visit to the Music, Sound & Performance Lab, PhD student Jonna Vuoskoski from The Finnish Centre of Excellence in Interdisciplinary Music Research conducted research on music, emotions and personality in collaboration with prof. Bill Thompson and Dr. Doris McIlwain. The collaboration involved two related research projects; one investigating the role of mood, personality and temperament in the perception of musical emotions, and the other exploring people’s paradoxical preference for sadness-inducing music.
