Master of Clinical Neuropsychology
Course code: MCLNPSY
The course aims to produce scientists/professionals of high calibre, well grounded theoretically and professionally, capable of moving across a range of clinically oriented areas and of assuming full independent professional responsibility in clinical settings and of maintaining an enquiring research attitude in day-to-day work.
The course consists of:
- a series of theoretical and technical units in areas fundamental to practice and research in clinical neuropsychology;
- supervised placement experiences in neuropsychological settings;
- a research proposal and disseration.
Full-time candidates are expected to complete in two years, taking units PSY863, PSYN803, PSYN804, PSYN805, PSYN829, PSYN807, PSYN809, PSYN821 and PSYN823 in their first year and units PSYN808, PSYN810, PSYN811, PSYN830, PSYN831, PSYN813 and PSYN814 in their second year. By the end of the second year the four clinical placements and the disseration should also have been completed.
Part-time candidates are required, as a minimum, to complete units PSYN803, PSYN821 and PSYN823 in their first year.
In addition, all candidates will be required to have passed PSYN824 Neuroanatomy for Neuropsychologists before proceeding to the second year of the course.
Admission requirements
An Honours degree in psychology with first-class or second-class honours division 1.
International applicants are also required to prove that their qualifications are equivalent to those offered in Australia by submitting them to the Australian Psychological Society (APS) for assessment. Equivalency is determined by the APS; the outcome of the APS assessment must be submitted with the application.
For PhD and combined PhD/Masters degree, eligibility also requires the identification of a suitable supervisor who is willing to cover supervision. It is therefore imperative that if you are applying for one of these research degrees, you contact potential supervisors in the department ahead of time (see staff research interests) and obtain a commitment from a supervisor.

- academic qualifications;
- evidence of any special interest in clinical work;
- referees' reports;
- motivation for seeking training in clinical neuropsychology;
- current employment and longer range employment intentions;
- temperamental and interpersonal competence factors deemed likely to affect suitability for working with brain-impaired people;
- English language proficiency.
Quota
It will be possible to admit only a limited number of students. In selecting candidates, particular consideration will be given to information supplied on the supplementary personal information sheet:
A personal interview with at least two members of the clinical staff forms part of the selection process.

Length of Candidature
2-4 years full-time, 3-6 years part-time
Attendance
Full-time or part-time: some units are offered for all candidates in the day time; others in the late afternoon or early evening. Since units are not repeated separately for part-time students, all intending part-time applicants should be able to obtain leave from their employer for at least one day each week.
Commencement
1st half year only (i.e., Feb/March). We do not have a mid-year intake for the Masters of Clinical Neuropsychology or combined PhD/Masters program.
Tuition Fees
Fees are charged for the Masters on a credit point basis. The Master of Clinical Psychology is a 64 credit point program

At present, there are no fees charged by the university for PhD or the Combined degree. In addition, student undertaking both of these degrees are eligible to apply for an Australian Postgraduate Research Award.
