In 2011 three new coursework doctorates in the areas of Clinical Psychology, Clinical Neuropsychology and Organisational Psychology were offered for intake for the first time.

The Doctor of Psychology (information for students enrolled prior to 2011)

The D.Psych is a program of coursework and research, which satisfies the requirements for professional admission to the Australian Psychological Society together with a professional research qualification with candidature of three years full-time or equivalent part-time.

Doctor of Psychology (Clinical Psychology)

Course code: DPSY(CLINPSY)

The Doctor of Psychology programs listed below are no longer offered for intake, the information on these pages exists as an archived resource for students who commenced their candidature prior to 2011.

Admission

Completion of a prescribed one half-year ( or one semester) full-time or two half-years part-time in the Master of Clinical Psychology program with a minimum of 22 credit points of coursework units which must include either PSY863 or PSY967(Evidence-based Clinical Psychology), and PSY933. Master of Clinical Psychology graduates and applicants with equivalent qualifications from other institutions may also be considered.

Quota

Admission will be competitive. In selecting candidates, particular consideration will be given to performance in the Masters coursework units, to the quality of the candidate’s research proposal, and to the information supplied on the Personal Supplementary Information Form. A personal interview forms part of the selection process.

Length of Candidature

3 years full-time, 6 years part-time

Attendance

Full-time or part-time. Some units are offered for all candidates in the day time; others in the late afternoon or early evening. Since units are not repeated separately for part-time students, all intending part-time applicants should be able to obtain leave from their employer for at least one day each week. In addition, part-time applicants must demonstrate availability to complete 1,500 hours of supervised placements.

Semester 1 and Semester 2.

Proposed Tuition Fee

  • Research training scheme (RTS) for local students – under these scheme students will NOT have to pay any upfront tuition fees or be liable for charges under the Fee-Help scheme, providing they complete the degree within the minimal time frame of 3 years full-time or part-time equivalent. Students will only be required to pay costs associated with the purchase of texts, readings etc associated with the coursework/thesis components of the degree.
  • International students should contact Macquarie International re the payment of fees.

Applicants for the Doctor of Clinical Psychology must complete a Personal Supplementary Information Form IN ADDITION TO the HDR Candidature and Scholarship Application Form available from the Higher Degree Research Office (HDRO)

Program of Study

The course consists of:

  1. 10 Core units marked * in the template below including enrolment in the core unit PSY994 Research Thesis which is continuous from program commencement.
  2. Non core coursework units from the Master of Clinical Psychology program which must generally be completed prior to commencement of core units with the exception of PSY994 in which enrolment is continuous.

Advanced standing exemptions for prior coursework will be given where applicants have completed units in another institution or in an earlier degree. Core units must be completed as part of the D.Psych degree and no exemptions will be given for the units marked *.

Pre-Enrolment Units

These "pre-enrolment" units need to be completed before an application can be made to apply for the D.Psych (Clinical) award; these units are completed via the Master of Clinical Psychology award, for which entry is competitive.

Admission requirements

Completion of one half-year Full-time or two half-years Part-time in the Master of Clinical Neuropsychology program with a minimum of 22 credit points of coursework units which must include PSY863 and PSYN825. Master of Clinical Neuropsychology graduates and applicants with equivalent qualifications from other institutions may also be considered.
