Welcome to Macquarie University's Psychology Registration Program

Psychology Registration Programs

The Psychology Registration Programs (simply PSYREGO in this Handbook) in the Department of Psychology are available as Postgraduate (PG) Certificate and PG Diploma awards in Applied Psychology and Statements of Attendance/Attainment.
The Applied Psychology program was first introduced in 2000 and for a period was offered as a strand of the Social Health program. From 2008, the Applied Psychology program has been separated from, and is run independently of, the Social Health program. This handbook is designed to give prospective and enrolled students an overview of the program and the specific course requirements. Although some academic and registration regulations are referred to, this is not the official statement of such regulations. For academic regulations please consult the Macquarie University Calendar of Governance, Legislation and Rules. For registration regulations, please consult the Psychologists Act (2001) and the Board’s Supervision Guidelines:

If you are intending to gain registration via one of the courses in this handbook, you will need a copy of the NSW Psychologists Registration Board’s Supervision Guidelines and you will need to understand it in detail. You will also need a copy of the Forms.
We recommend that you get a copy NOW.

Terminology and Abbreviations

APS	Australian Psychological Society
Board	NSW Psychologists Registration Board
PSYREGO	Applied Psychology Registration Course
Key Standard Certificates	Five Key Standard Certificates have been defined by the Board and sufficient competency needs to be gained in these areas to achieve full registration
Intern	A person holding Provisional Registration who is undertaking Board approved training to become registered as a Psychologist
Unit	Series of 5 workshops plus assessments across one semester of study
Program or Course	Series of units required for award of PG Certificate or PG Diploma or Masters
