Meet the Team

andrew baillie

Dr Andrew Baillie

Andrew Baillie is a Senior Lecturer in the Psychology Department at Macquarie University. Dr Baillie is a registered Clinical Psychologist in New South Wales and has extensive experience in addiction and mental health research, resulting in numerous peer-reviewed publications. Dr Baillie has particular expertise in thorough psychological assessment and treatment intervention for comorbid anxiety or depressive disorders.

 

Dr Claudia Sannibale

Claudia Sannibale is a Senior Clinical Psychologist at Drug Health Services, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and a Research Fellow at National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC). She has extensive clinical experience in the field of alcohol and mental health problems and has conducted several studies of treatment outcome for alcohol dependence. Dr Sannibale is chief investigator on several studies being conducted at RPA and NDARC, in particular, treatment studies of alcohol problems and comorbid social anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Professor Maree Teesson

Maree Teesson is an NHMRC Senior Research Fellow at the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC), the University of New South Wales. She has a long standing interest in mental health and substance use research, including clinical outcome and epidemiological studies of the prevalence and treatment of these disorders. Professor Teesson has strong links to mental health policy as a member of both state and commonwealth government committees and is the co-ordinator for commonwealth initiatives including the National Comorbidity Project. She has also been instrumental in establishing compliance therapy as an effective treatment for alcohol dependence.

Ron Rapee

Professor Ron Rapee

Ron Rapee has been researching anxiety and anxiety disorders for over 20 years. Ron has published in the areas of child and adult anxiety and has written and edited several books. He also has interest in related areas including depression, eating and sexual disorders, as well as a general interest in cross-cultural influences on all of the above. Ron is the Director of the Centre for Emotional Health at Macquarie Univeristy. This research centre of excellence focuses on the understanding, treatment and prevention of anxiety, depression and related mental health problems.

Paul Haber

Professor Paul Haber

Paul Haber is the founder and Chair of the Sydney Alcohol Research Group (SATG). Professor Haber is a Chief Investigator on all of the projects undertaken by the SATG. His role as Medical Director of Drug Health Services, SSWAHS, is to oversee the conduct of all research projects and to deliver medical services at the RPA site. Professor Haber has a long standing interest in alcoholism and for many years has been conducting successful research into relapse in alcohol dependence, pathogenesis of liver disease, hepatitis C and alcoholic pancreatitis. He has a Bachelor of Medical Science, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS, Honours), Doctor of Medicine (MD) and is a member of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP).

Lexine Stapinski

Dr Lexine Stapinski

Lexine Stapinski is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow within the Centre for Emotional Health, Macquarie University. She has completed a PhD and Masters degree in clinical psychology, and is currently coordinating the Combined Alcohol and Social Phobia trial. Lexine has considerable clinical experience treating a range of anxiety problems, particularly social phobia. Her current research interests focus on the cognitive mechanisms that perpetuate social anxiety, and investigating how alcohol use interacts with these processes.

Dr Sonia Haggman

Sonia Haggman is a Clinical Psychologist and has completed her PhD in the area of chronic pain. Sonia has a long standing interest in health research and practiced as a physiotherapist before completing her doctorate in clinical psychology. While she has worked in both the private and public sectors in clinical research trials, Sonia’s particular expertise lies in providing evidence based psychological treatment for clients dealing with a range of difficulties.

 

Kris Tulloch

Kris Tulloch

Kris Tulloch is a PhD student at Macquarie University and research assistant on the Combined Alcohol & Social Phobia treatment and research program. She has an Honours degree in psychology from Deakin University (Melbourne) and has worked on a range of projects with universities in Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales, all in the areas of psychopathology and substance use. Her specific areas of interest are alcoholism, social anxiety and illicit substance abuse.

 

Mikki

Mirjana (Mikki) Subotic

Mikki Subotic is a PhD student and research assistant on the Combined Alcohol & Social Phobia program. She has completed an Honours Degree in Psychology and holds a Graduate Diploma in Psychology from Macquarie University. She previously completed a Bachelor of Science from Sydney University. In 2007, Mikki completed an internship at the Emotional Health Clinic and was involved in the adult social phobia and child anxiety programs. Her broad area of interest is in adult social anxiety and neuropsychology, with a particular interest in the effects of drugs on neural function.

   

Erin Kelly

Erin Kelly

Erin Kelly is a Clinical Psychologist on the Combined Alcohol & Social Phobia treatment program. She completed her Masters of Clinical Psychology at Macquarie University, and has a strong interest in treatment for comorbid substance use disorders and anxiety/depressive disorders. Erin also has significant experience in drug and alcohol research, predominantly focusing on mental health amongst people with substance use problems.

Carla

 

Carla Ross

Carla is a research assistant on the Combined Alcohol & Social Phobia treatment and research program. She holds a first class Honours Degree in Psychology from Macquarie University and completed her thesis on the cognitive processes that perpetuate social phobia. Carla also works part-time at Alzheimer's NSW as a group facilitator of early intervention programs for persons with a diagnosis of dementia and their carers. She has two years experience as a telephone counselor for Lifeline and has worked with evidence-based positive psychology. Carla's current interests are therapeutic interventions for anxiety disorders and developmental psychology.

 

 

Zayra Millan

Zayra Millan is a Psychologist on the Combined Alcohol & Social Phobia treatment program. She is currently in the final stages of her PhD and Masters of Clinical Psychology at UNSW. In her PhD research, she is working to identify neural mechanisms underlying alcohol addiction. She has considerable clinical experience helping people to better manage anxiety, depression and stress.

Jocelyn Elliot

Jocelyn is a research intern on the Combined Alcohol and Social Phobia treatment and research program. She graduated this year with an Honours degree in Psychology from Macquarie University and currently works as a research assistant in the Macquarie Centre for Cognitive Science. Jocelyn  has had 4 years of experience as a Lifeline telephone counsellor and hopes to complete a Masters in clinical psychology.

Bianca Lee

Bianca is a research intern on the Combined Alcohol & Social Phobia treatment and research program. She completed her Honours degree in Psychology at Macquarie University in 2010 during which she conducted research to explore the relationship between social anxiety and problematic internet use. Bianca is currently editing her thesis for publication and is working at the Cumberland Hospital with patients who have schizophrenia. Bianca also has experience as a volunteer telephone counsellor at Lifeline, and as an Applied Behavioural Analysis therapist working with children who exhibit symptoms on the Autism Spectrum.
