Information for Professionals
What Should I consider Before Referring?
To be eligible to participate in the randomized controlled trial the child’s principal mental health diagnosis must be an anxiety disorder. Children who have comorbid diagnoses, such as ADHD, are only eligible if the anxiety disorder is causing more interference than the comorbid disorder at the time of assessment.
If the child is on medication for a mental health issue this must be stable for 1 month prior to the initial assessment. Children deemed at risk (abuse or neglect, active suicidal ideation, psychosis) will be excluded. The parent/guardian needs basic literacy skills to be able to work on the self-help materials that underpin the program.
How to Make a Referral
Parents are able to self-refer to our program. If you believe a patient or client would benefit from participation please give the parent a copy of our “Information for Parents” brochure and have them call us directly. If you would like to receive follow up information on the child’s progress please also give the parents a referral letter for them to pass onto us. Copies of the “Information for Parents” brochure can be found here or contact us to request additional copies by post.
